First partner for Miles4Education: Atlassian’s impressive commitment to education and movement

With around 2,000 kilometres covered in just four weeks, Atlassian, as our first partner, has impressively demonstrated what is possible when companies and their employees work together for a good cause.

Atlassian: A pioneer in the technology industry

Atlassian, a leader in software development and collaboration tools, has built a reputation with products such as Jira, Confluence and Trello, which are appreciated by millions of users worldwide. The company is known for its innovative strength and its commitment to helping teams optimise their collaboration and successfully complete projects.

The campaign: A big step for Atlassian

Our collaboration with Atlassian began with an ambitious goal: to cover as many kilometres as possible in four weeks. The employees of Atlassian Germany were immediately enthusiastic and fully committed to the campaign. The result: an impressive 2,000 kilometres covered by walking, cycling and hiking.

The enthusiasm was so great that the campaign was extended to Atlassian’s European sites. Employees from all over Europe took part and together contributed to the impressive mileage.

Behind the scenes: Organisation and implementation

Our Miles4Education team initially presented the campaign at Atlassian and reported live from South Africa on the challenges faced by children in Grabouw. These moving stories provided additional motivation for the employees. The campaign was advertised intensively via internal channels such as the Atlassian intranet, which led to a high level of participation.

The employees organised themselves into running groups and other joint activities to collect kilometres. The routes travelled were recorded using a tracking app of their choice and then consolidated.

A commitment that goes beyond kilometres

In addition to the sporting activities, many employees also donated privately, resulting in a considerable donation sum of several thousand euros. This additional commitment demonstrates the deep sense of social responsibility and generosity of the Atlassian workforce. The donated funds will directly benefit the children in Grabouw, because: With these funds, the Eagle’s Nest kindergarten can be converted into a comprehensive community centre. This central location will offer the children after-school care, a sports field, a library and a vegetable garden.

Why is this so important? The opportunities for further education on various subjects and the holistic education keeps the children off the streets and away from the negative influences of the township, giving them a better chance of building a decent life for themselves. This supportive place promotes their physical, mental and social development, which will have a positive long-term impact on the whole community.

The children of the Eagle’s Nest Kindergarten are more than grateful for Atlassian’s great commitment.

More than just a campaign: the benefits for everyone involved

The campaign strengthened employee loyalty at Atlassian. At the same time, the health and well-being of employees was promoted, which contributed to a positive working atmosphere. In addition, employees gained an awareness of social commitment and the importance of education, which had a lasting positive impact on team spirit and corporate culture.

Conclusion: A success all down the line

Miles4Education at Atlassian was more than just a fundraising campaign – it was an inspiring example of teamwork, commitment and social responsibility. The combination of sporting activity and commitment to a good cause has shown that Atlassian is not only an innovative technology leader, but also a company with a big heart. We are proud of everyone who took part and contributed with their full commitment to improving educational opportunities for children in South Africa.
